A Blast from the Past and More Reviews

I was cleaning up some shelves in the garage the other day and got the biggest laugh I have had in a while.  When Keith and I were first married, he brought with him some old containers his mother had given him.  I had never really paid close attention to them.  I knew they were circa 1970 because of the funky pattern that adorned the bright orange plastic canisters, but that was about all of the attention I gave it.  The color scheme did not fit our 1990's apartment;  therefore, it was filled with nails, screws, and various odds and ends that we had left over from building various kit furniture, and relegated to the tool closet.  After five moves, it now sits on the tool shelf in our garage, still holding the various odds and ends.  It looks the same as it did in 1992, and doesn't have a scratch or a chip in it.  The seal is still airtight, and the color has not faded one bit.  (okay...ORANGE)
I had a hunch it was Tupperware because of the shape of the lid.  Sure enough, I turned it over, and TUPPERWARE was embossed on the bottom!  I think it is wonderful that this canister has survived at least thirty years, being thrown around and mistreated, and yet still works as well as it did way back when.  When I think about reducing my consumption of materials, I am proud to sell a brand that really does last a lifetime.  I expect to be using the Tupperware I have recently bought for decades to come.  Heck.  Maybe even my daughter or son will be using MY old Tupperware once I have crossed over to the great beyond...

I do have a few reviews to give today...  Let's discuss the Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons Set (item 838---$26.00), which I am quite enamored of.  Each item is stackable, and nests perfectly inside the other cups or spoons.  The measuring cups have pour spouts on each side, making pouring liquids mess-free.  The measurements are EMBOSSED on the handle of the cups (and the spoons) so that they will not fade or rub off.  An added benefit to the cups is that instead of having to rinse out and reuse the same measuring bowl OR using more than one measuring bowl as I cook a meal, I can use each cup individually.  It saves me time, space, and irritation.  The spoons have the additional bonus of an easy pop on and off ring, as well as the ability to stand up on their own.  (Each spoon has its own base.)  I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to rummage around a drawer for the correct measuring spoon, or to have to clean up the myriad of measuring spoons when I knock over the measuring bowl they are stored in.  So, thumbs up to this set for saving me time, space, and most importantly, irritation.  LOL

I eyeballed the Large Cereal Storer (item 3776) that I unboxed a few weeks ago and thought, "Crap!  There is NO way the family size box of cereal I buy is going to fit in there.  Wonder what I will do with the remainder?"  I was disappointed, but decided to see how much would fit.  I was amazed when the entire box fit inside!    The money was well-spent after all!  Now I finally have a container in which I can store one entire family size box of cereal and pour into bowls without making a mess.  The pour opening is wide enough for the flakes to pass through, but small enough that there is no mess.  The lid is airtight, so the cereal stays fresh as long as it is sealed properly.  SCORE!  Even better, now you can buy one for $19.50 or two for $35.00...

Organization Services $20 and Large Pick A Deli Container $17.00

I suppose I had a twinkle in my eye at lunch today as I told my co-workers how much I enjoyed organizing my pantry with all of the new items I had bought, because one person piped up, "You should charge a fee and come organize people's pantries with the items they buy, because I have no idea how to really organize my pantry."  I laughed at first, but then it hit me that I would love to do that!  (My friends treasure me for my geekiness...lol)
So...I will come and organize your pantry with your newly bought Tupperware items for a fee of $20 if you live in the Gastonia/Charlotte/Mt. Holly area.  I will also come out to your home and suggest what items will best maximize the space in your cabinets, pantry, and refrigerator.  I have samples to bring so that you can visualize how much time and space you will save once your home is organized...

I thought I would go ahead and discuss the Large Pick A Deli Container that I have been using for about a month now.  I can't tell you how many times I have been annoyed because someone over-tightened the lid on the pickle jar.  I have to bang the side of the lid on the counter top and strain to twist it off, or call my husband over to "loosen" it for me.  The Pick A Deli Container is fabulous for many reasons, but the best could be that there is no more screw on lid!  The lid fits on securely, is airtight, and pops off when you pull up on the tab.  Hallelujah!!
Furthermore, it has a lift up strainer that holds the pickles so that I do not have to slop the pickle juice out all over the counter when I fish around for a pickle.  A forked spear inserts in the center of the jar for easy removal of the pickles.
Best of all, the pickles are no longer in a glass jar that threatens to break each time the children decide to drag it out!  Big thumbs up to this item!!
The one difference between my container and the new one in the Spring/Summer catalog is that the new version is square.  I do not believe it comes with the spear, either.  If you would like to order a round one like mine, I can see what I can do to stir one up...

Large Sports Bottle $13.00

I have been trying to save money and be conscious of the amount of waste I dispose of.  In order to be healthy, and curb cravings, I have been buying bottled water to drink at home and at work.
First of all, I was spending way too much money on water that I could buy in a gallon jug for .78.  Secondly, I felt guilty about throwing all of those bottles in the trash.
I was looking for a nice sports bottle that I could use at work, at the YMCA when I work out, or on the Greenway after a run.  As such, it needed to be waterproof, look nice, and be easy to grip during work outs.  Well, I liked the looks of the Tupperware Large Sports Bottle, so I thought I would give it a try.
I have been using it for two weeks now without any issues.  It doesn't leak, so I can throw it in my gym bag or work satchel without the fear of getting everything wet.
The bottom is a removeable cup that secures tightly to the base.  If I want to put my car key or some change in it, it fits nicely, and screws back on.
The side has an easy to grip, easy to squeeze area that fits nicely in my hand.  It isn't difficult to squeeze for your water.
On top of all that, it is just downright cute.
I am not the only one that likes it.  My daughter likes to use it, and the kids in my classes have been asking me about it...

How My Foray into Blogging Began...

Since I was a small child, I have always dreamed of opening my own dance/yoga studio. My vision was of a peaceful studio in a quiet setting, surrounded by a garden that I would tend to with love...
The financial reality of making that dream come true has been, well, a tad harsh. This year, I turned (cough) forty, and I decided that I was going to make this more than just a dream.
The big question was how to do it without placing a strain on my family's finances and stressing myself out...
A friend of mine invited me to a Tupperware party, which to be honest, I attended only because it seemed very retro (reminded me of my childhood in the '70's) and because my friend is a real sweetie pie. Now, I had a secret. I was an organization nut. Seriously. Anything that concerned organization was beloved by me. period. I had my shoes in a shoe organizer so that I knew where they were, and could see the different styles/colors. I had my purses in an organizer for the same reason. Even my children's scrapbook items were in organizers awaiting the day that I would organize them into their scrapbooks...
Easily enough, then, Tupperware had me at hello! They were the oranization gurus of the kitchen, and boy, my kitchen needed it! Also, because of the fact that all items came with a life-time guarantee (as long as they weren't used commercially) against chipping, and breaking, I knew that I would be saving money in the long run.
I suddenly had a thought. Although I was not big on the whole recruitment, party idea, I loved Tupperware, and was interested in sharing it with other people. So, why not buy items that I wanted to buy anyway, test them out, and share the results with my friends? I figured that I would be buying it anyway, and this way, I could start setting money aside to achieve my dreams...
So...that is how the idea of this blog was formed. I will post items that I have bought, tested, and found to be helpful and well-made. I will not post anything that I would not buy for myself. (You can count on that.)
If you would like to order, please use the link I created on the right side of the blog to my Tupperware website.
Finally, I thought it would be neat to show you guys how close I am to reaching my goals, so I am going to post a chart that shows my progress. Please recommend my site to your friends. Tupperware is the tops!
